Travel Tips Tuesdays: What's Your Traveler Archetype?

Great prizes in this Photo/Video Contest

Travel news for our favorite travelers.

Greetings, Travel Tip-Seekers!

Here are this week’s tips curated for you from our reliable sources in the travel industry and from general interest newsletters, websites, and publications.

What Kind of Traveler Are You?

Setting an intention before shopping for a trip can help you land in the right place at just the right time.

Planning trips for groups of travelers who may not know each other can be a challenge! Our friends at the Transformational Travel Council have put together an interesting list of “traveler archetypes,” and you might recognize yourself in Founder Jake Haupert’s descriptions below:

The Seven Souls of Transformational Travel

Pilgrim Travelers Seeking spiritual transformation through sacred sites and places of deep cultural significance, drawn to preserve spiritual ecology and meaningful ritual

Mystic Travelers Pursuing enlightenment through ancient wisdom, consciousness expansion, and deep nature connection via contemplative practices

Diaspora Travelers Reconnecting with ancestral lands and cultural roots, transforming through identity exploration and cultural bridge-building

Extreme Sports Travelers Using appropriate physical challenges and wilderness expeditions as catalysts for mental breakthrough and leadership development

Volunteer Travelers Growing through hands-on conservation work, citizen science, and habitat restoration while creating tangible community impact

Healing Travelers Focusing on psychological and physical renewal through nature therapy, stress reduction, and mindful movement in natural settings

Learner Travelers Seeking intellectual growth through conservation education, traditional ecological knowledge, and naturalist training that fundamentally shifts worldview

We offer a wide variety of trips so that we can, we hope, address all of your archetypes!

When a Hotel Cancels Your Booking

Getting angry won’t help. Sorry!

Airlines and restaurants often overbook to account for no-shows. But what if a hotel cancels your booking, even at the last minute? You may be out of luck.

Do Cheaper Airlines Cut Corners on Safety?

Things are not quite this bad.

Is it riskier to buy a ticket on Spirit, Frontier, RyanAir, or Volare? The answer may surprise you.

Just What is Turbulence, Anyway?

Keep your seat belts fastened, ya beasts.

When you’re traveling 600 MPH in a metal tube 30,000 feet above the ground watching a movie with a drink on your tray table, turbulence is unwelcome at best. Sometimes it can be downright terrifying. Here are some short videos with the relevant physics/engineering/aerodynamics lessons to help calm your nerves the next time the co-pilot announces “a few little bumps ahead.”

Great Prizes in this Travel Photo/Video Contest

Bride-to-be Jeannie Ralston on Diamond Beach in Iceland.

We just signed a partnership agreement with Global Rescue, the #1 company that rescues the hikers on Mt. Everest and other extreme travel adventures. They’re running a photo/video contest with some exciting hiking trips as prizes. The deadline is October 2. We’re not involved with the contest but we promise to always share opportunities for great prizes whenever we come across them!

For Scotland, Ireland, India, Africa, Asia, etc. etc.

It’s more than $10.

You could wear a $10 poncho, or a sweaty rain jacket, or put a newspaper over your head. But the next time I get caught in the rain on a trip I’m whipping out this little item.

Hope to see you down the road!
