Travel Tips Tuesdays: Cruisin' Tips

Congress is coming for your airline points!

Travel news for our favorite travelers.

Greetings Travel Tip-Seekers!

Here are this week’s tips curated for you from our reliable sources in the travel industry and from general interest newsletters, websites, and publications.

Save Your Points!

They’re coming for your frequent airline miles!

You know how you love to use your credit card for everything from Starbucks to the dog groomer so you can rack up those airline miles? Well, if you follow The Points Guy (a good resource for learning how to leverage your airline points for maximum benefit) you’ll see he’s sounding the alarm about proposed legislation that threatens to do away with them.

We don’t like to get political in our communications with you, but we thought you’d want to know about the Credit Card Competition Act, which would let merchants—not consumers—choose which payment processor to use, and that may mean you won’t get mileage credit. Want to let Congress know how you feel about it? Click here.

The Most Beautiful Airport

Guess where?

You may have heard about SIN, the gorgeous Changi airport in Singapore known for its lush gardens, waterfalls, skylights and sculptures. Well the US has one to be proud of and it’s in the Pacific Northwest. Portland’s PDX has had a major makeover and it is stunning. You can watch a video about the enlightened natural design here.

Planning a Cruise?

Let’s see…Christmas markets? Linblad? Booze cruise?

We don’t do cruises but we know some of you love them. And this year some of you might try cruising for the first time. Our friends at Daily Passport have come up with a list of 10 things you should know before you go.

Where to Stay Cool This Summer

An adventure on the water is included in our weekend trip to Seattle this summer.

And on another top ten list: one of our destinations this summer! The state of Washington ranks #2 in the Top 10 States with the Coolest Summer Weather.

We have a few spots left on our trip to Seattle at the end of August. With climate change you never know what the weather will be, but you have a better than even chance it will be cooler than Texas!

Yet Another Reason to Carry On vs. Check a Bag

TSA and FAA remind passengers with portable chargers and other lithium batteries that they cannot travel in checked bags.

Things That Make You Go Aha!

Sometimes getting away can get you closer to the truth…whatever truth you’re looking for.

One of the best things about travel is how it opens our hearts and minds to new experiences, new friendships, and sometimes…things that just make your jaw drop. Being in a new place, surrounded by unfamiliar sights, sounds, and people, can get you out of your rut, and help you examine life from a fresh perspective. Now scientists have discovered what happens in your brain when you have those “Aha” moments and—spoiler alert—what happens changes everything.

Bon voyage!
