Travel Tips Tuesday

Greetings fellow wanderers, wayfarers, and nomads!

Are you looking for a way to escape the mayhem and madness of 2025? Whether you’re traveling on your own, or with us (we hope you do!) here’s some interesting travel news we’ve curated from our sources.

Layover Heaven

Stop over in Lisbon for our Portugal trip this September.

Have you ever planned a long trip but wanted to stop somewhere along the way? Were you deterred by airline ticket prices for “open jaw'“bookings?

Now some international airlines are allowing stopovers with no additional fee. including to destinations we visit:

TAP Air Portugal: If you fly this airline across the pond, you can add up to 10 nights in Lisbon or Porto to your trip, plus get 25% off domestic flights and discounts on hotels and tours.

Icelandair: Search for the northern lights with up to seven days in Iceland on your transatlantic itinerary.

Best Travel Outfit Ever

This 3-piece outfit—made from wrinkle-free fabric (thank you)—showed up in our Facebook feed and it looks amazing. We don’t have a brand partnership with them. We just think it looks like a great travel outfit!

Testing, Testing…Objective Report on a Favorite Destination

You know that Jeannie Ralston lives in Asheville and that we’re offering an Insider Tour of her beloved hometown in April. But people still are wondering if it’s really BACK. You don’t have to take Jeannie’s word that it is. Read this from AFAR magazine:

5 Ways to Save in Europe

And remember when budget travel was $12 a day? Well, Nomadic Inflation is a thing. In a recent Washington Post article, Nomadic Matt tells you how he does it for $75 a day! His tips:

  1. Travel like you live. Eat where the locals eat. Shop at local markets. Stay in small guesthouses (or couch surf!)

  2. Use Global ATM alliance to avoid ATM fees

  3. Put a limit on your debit card (scammers are everywhere!)

  4. Buy travel insurance. He’s used it for a lost camera, a broken leg, a stolen bag, and worse!

  5. Share accommodations wherever you can.

Faster Boarding Done Faster

Hooray!! United Airlines has found a way to save time on that slo-mo part of travel: the boarding process. They’ve created new groups for economy class based on seating position. Group 3 is for window seats; Group 4, middle seats; Group 5, aisles. OK, the savings is, on average, only two minutes per flight, according to United. But hey, every minute less spent cooling our jets on a jetway queue is good news.
