Summer time is here. Let's get together!

Mars here! I’m coming down from my Umbria Creative Retreat high, and back at home in my own, charming, rural village! (ha!)

Carolyn Kilday was my roommate and running buddy for the last three weeks. She inspired me to try watercolors in Italy!

Our week at the Villa for our Creativity Retreat was as fabulous as I had hoped. The 15 NextTribe participants embarked on a journey using all our senses…from the tasting of a flight of fabulous wines from the neighboring vineyard, the scent of strong espresso everywhere we went, the lovely sound of morning birdsong, the unbelievably serene vistas of green hills everywhere we looked, dotted with castles and churches, to the texture of ancient cobblestones beneath our feet. All of these experiences were chronicled in our handmade books made from the most gorgeous Italian paper.

One of my favorite parts were the “side trips” we made to other cities and villages. We were invited into workplaces of multi-generational artisans. We explored medieval villages and ascended a mountain in a slightly-terrifying funicular. Our group included a few world-class shoppers, and we indulged by visiting several village market days, where a few lucky NextTribers scored 10 Euro vintage leather jackets. Check out the little video we made of our thrifty-fashion style show!

I‘m feeling such gratitude to Jen Vickers and husband Lee Walker for inviting us to their home, (and translating for us at every turn!) to Shannon Faseler who led our creative workshops, and Vanessa Sinclair who made sure we ate and drank VERY well each day (and got us where we needed to be on time!)

Check out everything going on all around the NextTribe community:

Washington, DC Metro Area

Jeanne Edmunds was in DC recently, and she arranged a coffee confab with two of our local members, a first-ever NextTribe event in the area! She met Katherine, the author of several books on Paris, and Cat, a federal worker who took early retirement and is ready to travel!

Asheville

Last weekend Asheville NextTribers met up in a serene setting for a Pick-Your-Own Flower outing! Thanks to Brandi Andrade for organizing this special springtime activity!

Austin

I so appreciate the Austin NextTribers who stepped to host events while I was away!

A big thank you to NextTribe member Nanci Silver-Boice who facilitated a presentation and discussion on Grief at our last Sunday Salon.

Please note: our Sunday Salon series is on a summer hiatus, but we’ll pick back up in the Fall. If you have any great women you know who would be an interesting presenter for us, please reach out to Nancy Goedeke!

Thanks to Jennifer Miller for hosting Cawfee Tawk at Galaxy Cafe May 15th. Smaller group, because so many of us were traveling, but looking at who is in this photo, I’m sure there was no shortage of conversation!

This week in Austin! Cawfee Tawk is Thursday 5/29 at 10 am at Lazarus Brewing.

June event! Briana Gowing has organized a Road Trip to Blanco for the Lavender Fest. One of the farms on the tour used to be owned by our fearless leader Jeannie Ralston. Did you know she wrote a book about her life as a Lavender Queen?

We’re still working on details for a lunch meeting place, and possibly stopping at Desert Door Sotol Distillery in Driftwood afterwards.

Houston

Houston June event! June 21st is the Third Saturday Open Art Studios at Sawyer Yards. Please message Katherine to let her know if you can participate!

San Antonio

NextTribers had a curator-led tour of the San Antonio Museum of Art

Thank you to Lucie Frost for organizing a well-attended tour at the San Antonio Museum of Art.

Phoenix/Scottsdale

Delcy Brockman, who was on the Umbria Creative Retreat with me, and we got to bond and brainstorm a bit on ideas for the Phoenix group!

Stay tuned for future events with Delcy in Phoenix and with Terri Doss in Scottsdale!

I love to brainstorm about any type of meet up, coffee, happy hour, movies, book events, art tours. If you’re interested in getting a group organized in your city, shoot me an email, and I’ll help get it started.

Those who run our city groups get bumped up to Lifetime Member, with all those perks. Reach out to me at [email protected].

And remember, do an email search for Jennifer Miller’s invitation to join our WhatsApp community. You’ll find local WhatsApp groups in other cities. Maybe a city you’re traveling to, where you might want to connect with a local NextTriber!

Life’s more fun with friends!
