NextTribe | Member News: May 13

I'm writing from Italy this week. Wish you were here! 🛩️

Mars here! I’m writing from our gorgeous villa in Umbria! Carolyn Kilday, another NextTriber and artist friend from Austin, and I have spent the last week in Florence and Cinque Terra. Gosh I love Italy!

We spent a week doing arty things, visiting interesting site, and, of course, eating well!

Then we took a train to Umbria to spend a week at the home of NextTriber Jen Vickers. By “home” I mean “villa,” and exquisite historic property situated on top of a hill overlooking the beautiful Italian countryside and nearby villages. (Jen is welcoming guests to the villa again in the fall for olive harvest, truffle hunting and more creative fun.)

We’re here for the creativity retreat and we are all letting our creative juices flow under the guiding hand of artist and art educator, Shannon Faseler, and led by Austin’s very own Vanessa Sinclair (who’s here with her super fun and charming “mum,” Valerie.)

This may very well be my last newsletter because I may never come home!

Check out everything going on all around the NextTribe community:

Asheville

Spring is truly gorgeous in Asheville, and the NextTribers are going to make the most of it by going out to a cut-your-own flower farm. If you’re in the area, please join in on the fun. You pay based on how many flowers you cut. Please RSVP at our Eventbrite so that we know who’s coming, which will help us arrange carpooling.

New York City

The gathered Joni/Henry Alford fans, plus the man of the moment with Jenny Allen and Jeannie Ralston, who traveled to NYC for the event.

On Sunday, May 4th, well-known author and humorist Henry Alford (The New Yorker, Vanity Fair) enchanted us with stories and insights about Joni Mitchell and readings from his bestseller I Dream of Joni.

Also enchanting: Ellen Williams gorgeous Greenwich Village apartment, where we’re lucky enough to regularly hold events. (Missing from the fun was Laura Ross, who runs the NYC NextTribe community with Caytha Jentis. Get better fast Laura!!)

Austin

I’m thrilled to see Austin running along smoothly without me. That means I can take more trips!

Thanks Briana Gowing for hosting our Coffee Tawk at the new Swedish Hill while I was on a plane to Italy.

This is only half the crowd. We’re outgrowing all of our locations!

Thanks Peggy Miller for hosting Happy Hour at a new restaurant, Lee’s Kitchen and Cocktails in West Lake.

This is probably one of the last days we can gather outside until Fall!

In my absence, Jennifer Miller is hosting our next Cawfee Tawk! we’re back at the meeting room at the Galaxy Cafe on Mesa on Thursday May 15. Have fun!

Meet the NextTribe Travel Team! Marcy Mitchell and Brenda Lyon are in Austin and would love to meet members & travelers in person this Saturday. Thanks to Joy Mills for hosting! No need to RSVP. Just show up to find out more about the women who keep the wheels on the jet.

Come and meet the women who make your travel dreams come true!

Our May Sunday Salon, May 18, 2-4 pm back at Salt Traders. We’ll have a presentation on Grief and Loss with NextTribe member Nanci Silver-Boice.

Please RSVP at Eventbrite so we know you’re coming.

Houston

Katherine Adams is busy with two college-graduating daughters! Stay turned for upcoming events.

San Antonio

Lucie Frost has organized an exclusive curator-led tour of the San Antonio Museum of Art. Please RSVP on Eventbrite.

Phoenix

Phoenix is quiet this week. Delcy Brockman (who hosted the Vietnam travelers in her home last month) is on the Creativity Retreat with me in Umbria!

By the time you read this Delcy and I will have made these “dough babies” into some (we hope) delicious pasta for lunch!

Stay tuned for future events with Delcy in Phoenix and with Terri Doss in Scottsdale!

Washington, DC Metro Area

NextTribe COO Jeannie Edmunds is traveling to Alexandria, Virginia this week with her husband. She’s inviting all local NextTribe members and travelers to meet her for coffee in DC on Saturday, 5/17. No need to sign up. Just come (and feel free to bring a friend!)

This will be the first-ever NextTribe event in the DC area!

I love to brainstorm about any type of meet up, coffee, happy hour, movies, book events, art tours. If you’re interested in getting a group organized in your city, shoot me an email, and I’ll help get it started.

I’m [email protected]. Those who run our city groups get bumped up to Lifetime Member, with all those perks.

And remember, do an email search for Jennifer Miller’s invitation to join our WhatsApp community. You’ll find local WhatsApp groups in other cities. Maybe a city you’re traveling to, where you might want to connect with a local NextTriber!

Life’s more fun with friends!
