My Big Fat Greek Adventure: Athens and Greek Islands
We were blown away by the island of Hydra last year, so we’re going back! But we’ve changed the trip up a bit to take in more AND make it more affordable. I love when we can do that.
This year we’re adding a few days in Athens and a visit to another island that fits well with the NextTribe vibe. It won’t be art-centered as it was in 2025. Since it’s not an art retreat it costs us a lot less, so we’re passing the savings on to you!
You’ll spend most of your time on Hydra—Jackie O’s favorite island— and that’s no surprise. Jeannie Edmunds loved this secret spot in the Agean Sea so much she’s going back in March for a vacation, and she’s talked me into letting her lead the trip again in early October! She knows a good trip when she sees one. :)
We can only take 10-12 women this time, and we’ll have a small, boutique Athens hotel all to ourselves if we fill the trip.
Hidden Hydra
First, what it’s not.
It’s not over-run with tourists like Santorini and Mykonos.
Now what it is.
A quiet island that has attracted artists and creatives for most of the last century. You’ll get to meet some of them during your stay there. And as with all NextTribe trips, you’ll be in the company of really cool women and get to meet some interesting women who live there.
Since no cars are allowed on the island, locals get around by walking, ferries, or water taxis. The absence of street traffic means a quieter, slower pace of life. And the food, the shopping, and the people watching are unsurpassed.
It’s a playground of the yachting set. They tie up in the harbor, shop, eat, and return to their floating sanctuaries. Last year a colorful 110-ft. yacht designed by Jeff Koons was anchored there. But you won’t find Prada or Luis Vuitton there, just very good quality (and reasonably priced) clothes, jewelry, artwork. And excellent, healthy food—even some of the best Italian food you’ll have outside of Italy!
Jeannie Edmunds lost her mind (and left a piece of her heart) there last year, and she predicts you will too! In a good way.
The trip to Hydra, Greece was magical. Everything was top-notch—the food, the beautiful island, our wonderful local planner, Daniela, swimming in the sea, and even shopping! I highly recommend.

Tuscany at the Holidays
Every December, Florence becomes a wonderland of light and festivity—the dazzling "Florence Lights Up" festival illuminates the city, a towering Christmas tree anchors the Duomo's piazza, and shop windows overflow with glittery ornaments and traditional Italian sweets. The historic center dresses up for the season while locals go about their lives—sipping warm drinks, roasting chestnuts, and shopping at holiday markets.
And in 2026, we’ll be there right in the middle of it all. We visited last year in November, but we’re moving it back to December to capture the holiday spirit and abbondanza of the season in Italy.
You’ll have time to discover Firenze and the surrounding area with our popular trip leader Shannon Faseler—an artist and Italian art historian (and super fun gal) in the city she knows and loves with unbridled passion.

She’ll introduce you to a local artisan who can guide you in a the art of gilding: applying gold leaf to a small memento you can bring home with you. You’ll also learn to create frescoes, in the same time-honored tradition, and visit studios of perfumers, leatherworkers, and printmakers.
And it’s Italy, so you’ll shop for ingredients and a Nonna in a farmhouse will teach you how to cook it. Then…Buon apetito! You and your traveling companions will sit down and eat what you create together!
Also on the itinerary—visiting Siena, a winery tour in the countryside and a tour the Uffizi museum, hitting all the highlights, with an expert guide.
Shannon led us from one wonderful experience to another. I’d take another trip with the same people in a heartbeat!”

The trip reminded me of who I am, what I really love, and what I should be spending my time on. My brain rested, and my eyes were happy.
