Magazine Articles: Best Clothes for Travel

Plus, to haggle or not when shopping abroad and kids who don't come home for visits.

This week both Jeannies will be back in their nests, finally.

Jeannie Ralston is….

Taking it easy at home in Asheville—with electric and drinkable water restored.

Jeannie Edmunds’ trip home from Vietnam started Tuesday at 9AM in the lobby of the Grand Peridot Hotel in Hanoi and wasn’t finished till 11 pm in Austin last night.

“Getting there and back has been a long trek, but worth every minute,” she says. She thinks this trip will be as popular as our San Miguel de Allende Day of the Dead trip next year. “Imagine two weeks of full immersion into the culture, classes in pottery, cooking, and embroidery, plus shopping, spa treatments, and a local guide who is a hill tribe woman as fascinating, bold, and brave as our travelers. Hard to beat that combination! ”

Check out those pants! $4 in the market in Bac Ha.

And one from the archives. Count your blessings if you have grown kids who visit you. Not everyone does.

Happy trails!

More Day of the Dead Fun!

Our Classic Day of the Dead trip for 2025 sold out in days; our Deluxe Trip for 2025 has one spot left.

So, due to popular demand, we’ve opened a second Deluxe Day of the Dead trip, Group 2. Same extraordinary itinerary, different hotel.

An Easier Way to Hike to Machu Picchu

For two years, we’ve taken groups of adventurous women on a four-day hike of the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu. It’s been a transformational experience for many hikers and a joy for NextTribe to create this opportunity. For our third visit to the area, we are modifying the hiking section to make it more accessible and, let’s be honest, comfortable.

We retain the best parts of the previous hikes—including the magic of first glimpsing Machu Picchu from the Sun Gate—but give you a real bed to sleep in and avoid the highest altitudes and the wear-and-tear on your body. The perfect combo of adventure and coddling.
