Age Boldly: Would You Pose as an Art Model?

Plus, how a week in an Italian villa changed a retiree's thoughts on her next chapter.

Buongiorno!

Jeannie Ralston is packing once again. This time to drive down to Charleston, SC, to attend a funeral—so not the fun kind of packing. The mother of one of her dearest friends, Kimberly Cihlar—our fashion editor and all-around great supporter—died earlier in the week.

Many of Kim’s college friends are heading to the service, because that’s what friends do for each other during difficult times. I’m happy to be there for Kim; she’s always been there for me.

Kim and me more than 3 years ago, when we drove cross-country after my divorce. That’s a true friend.

Jeannie Edmunds is back in the gym after huffing and puffing on the chimp trek in the hilly forests of Uganda. She says she’s not going to let age define her or defeat her. “I’ve never been athletic, but when I worked for Beachbody we were encouraged to take time out of our work day to exercise in the company’s huge, beautiful gym. We had the best trainers and I learned a lot from them, but since then I haven’t prioritized fitness. It’s so important as we get older. Mobility is everything!”

Getting in shape for hiking the (small) hills of Hydra on our Greece trip!

We can’t believe it’s almost August. Where has this year gone?

This Week’s Reads

One of the perks of working for NextTribe is you can take advantage of a generous employee discount on one trip per year. Our local communities manager, Marcellina Kampa, went to Italy this Spring. Here’s her take on the guest experience on this trip. BTW, we still have openings for our fall trip to this same gorgeous villa in Umbria and we’re hosting a trip preview this coming Monday. RSVP here.

And from the archives…a story about artistic inspiration of another kind—as an artist’s model.

Happy travels—

LL Bean’s cotton gauze shirt

Jeannie Ralston says, “I love this shirt because the fabric is really light, and it comes pre-wrinkled so it doesn’t matter who much time it’s in your suitcase. It looks like it did brand new. Plus, lots of colors.”
