Greeting from Galapagos!
Where a couple of rare birds were spotted nesting in the same place at the same time.
The two Jeannies rarely get a chance to travel together. When a last-minute spot opened on the Galapagos yacht Edmunds, always a “YES!” woman when it comes to travel, couldn’t resist.
Jeannie Ralston had spent the prior week leading a group of travelers through the Amazon and into the Andes. She was so happy to stay at one of her favorite hotels—one that “lives in my dreams,” she says. Hacienda Cuisin, built in the early 1600s, is surrounded by luscious gardens. One of the many highlights there was an embroidery class from the experts—women from the Otovalo area who are known for their fabulous needlework.
Speaking of gardens—the group stopped by a rose plantation. You might not know that Ecuador is the biggest exporter of roses in the world. But now you do.
Jeannie Edmunds spent last weekend in Quito before joining the Galapagos group. The Spanish Colonial city reminded her of San Miguel de Allende (where we go for Dia de los Muertos). In fact, both cities are UNESCO World Heritage sites. She took some awesome photos on her days bopping around Quito.
And while we’re on the subject, have you submitted one (or more) of your awesome photos to our travel photo contest yet, with one or more photos you took on the road that makes you go WOW?
You still have time. The deadline is May 15. If you don’t enter, your chances of NOT winning are 100;%. Deadline to submit is May 15. The contest is open to non-members, too, so share with your friends who happen to be women age 45 “or better!” $1000 cash first prize, or $2,000 off of any NextTribe trip.
We hope you enjoy the articles this week.

Jeannie Ralston says, "I’m not sure there’s a more useful piece of clothing when you’re out on an adventure—such as in the Amazon, the Galapagos or Africa—than a lightweight neck gaiter. It protects your neck from sun, bugs, or you can slide it over your head to keep hair out of your face on a hike. Or if you’re snorkeling in the Galapagos, it protects your head in the water.”
