Age Boldly: What to Carry as a Personal Bag on the Plane

And how to make sure it doesn't mess up your back.

Greetings!

This is birthday party week for Jeannie Ralston, who attended her sister and brother-in-law’s 70th celebration this weekend. It was a wonderful affair—the highlight being their 4 children singing their version of “If I Had a Million Dollars,” by the Bare Naked Ladies—a family favorite. Also, the photo booth was a hoot. Below is a photo strip of me with 2 of my 5 siblings and my 96-year-old mom, who stayed later than many of those in their early 70s. Go mom go!!

Tomorrow she’s off to North Myrtle Beach, SC, to fete her dear friend Ellesor Holder. Five years ago, Jeannie drove from Texas to SC during the middle of the pandemic because she couldn’t stand the thought of not being with Ellesor for her 60th. That’s when Jeannie wrote this tribute to Ellesor and fun friends everywhere. Maybe it’s time to pen a story about the beauty of enduring friendships of all kinds.

Jeannie Edmunds is resting after surgery on her other eye. Instead of listening to a book or podcast, she’s listening to @justbeingmelani creator of the #wedonotcareclub. “We do not care if our hair looks like a rat’s nest in the back…that’s not the part that we see.” “We do not care if you see us pulling our chin hair out at the red light…this is the best angle for us.”

Jeannie says “I have to keep blindly scrolling every couple of minutes but it’s worth it. This woman is soooo relatable and hilarious!”

And the manager of our online community, Jennifer Miller, was spotted in Santa Fe on a trip with her family.Check out our Santa Fe trip coming up October 1-4! Jennifer says, “Watch out. You may want to move here! ”

Jennifer also went to the opera, MeowWolf, and had some great local food.

Enjoy the articles and the dog days of August!

This Week’s Reads

And from the archives, an eye-opening and relevant story for women like us—who need to make sure we’re heard about this. A friend was just talking about frozen shoulder the other day, and we directed her to the article. Raise your arm—if you can—if you want more respect from the medical community.

Happy travels—

Sam Edelman Silver Sneakers

Jeannie Ralston says, “I bring my silver sneakers on many trips, such as a recent visit to Scotland, above. They’re comfortable, which is the MOST important thing, but I can wear them with anything—even dresses and skirts because the silver elevates them into the “dressy” realm. Versatility is a top priority, and Sam Edelman delivers good quality for a reasonable price.”
