Age Boldly: Safari, So Good!

It's never too late to Join the Peace Corps and 2 new trips for 2026 just released.

Greetings!

Tonight, Jeannie Ralston is leaving for Europe, where she’ll lead our trips to Iceland and Portugal. Before heading out she got to spend last weekend at the beach celebrating her good friend Ellesor’s 65th birthday. She also went out to dinner with a NextTriber who was visiting Asheville. She met Teri Doss on our San Miguel de Allende trip a few years ago, and Teri has joined us on several other trips since. (Her next trip is Japan!)

Left: College pals united for birthday weekend at North Myrtle Beach. Right: Jeannie with Teri Doss, visiting Asheville from Arizona.

Jeannie Edmunds hosted the Coffee Talk at the Colton House in Austin today. She wrote the story below about our African Safari trip she led in June. We’re offering the safari again next June, and there are only 4 spots left! More details here.

NextTribe board member Michelle Breyer (center, laughing) said “I have to come to more of these, I have such a good time meeting all these women!” Michelle introduced the Jeannie’s to each other and the rest is history! Oh, and she also introduced us to her friend Mollie Mitchell, who introduced us to her sister, Marcy, our travel manager. We owe a lot of our success to Michelle, and to our other board member, Emily Shempp, who lives in New York and comes to our New York events.

Marcellina Kampa, Manager of our in-real-life Local Communities is spending a week in the Pacific Northwest with her husband after co-leading our trip to Seattle (with local Dee Quiggle), where she and our other travelers got a lesson in glassblowing!

Hot fun in Seattle!

September is almost here, though we’re trying to stay in the moment. Enjoy the last remnants of summer!

This Week’s Reads

And from the archives, one of our favorite articles. An excerpt from the memoir “How to Cook a Crocodile” by a 50-year-old Peace Corps volunteer who happens to be a breast cancer survivor. The story includes a couple of recipes but don’t worry, you don’t have to catch a crocodile to make them!

Happy travels—

FEATURED FIND

Jeannie Ralston says, “I once had the perfect travel coat--light crepe with a hood and lots of pockets from Athleta. I loaned it to someone and never got it back. I grieve it still and have been searching for something like it for years. This trench is the closest thing yet--stretchy, comfy and just warm enough. It can be worn over 3 seasons--add a wrap in winter. I also like the closure. I hate double-breasted trench coats because they're hard to wear open. This looks fabulous and insouciant open or closed.”
