OK, back to our regular program.
When Jeannie Ralston came up with the idea of Slow Travel through Kerala, which she considers India's most beautiful state, she hoped that travelers would appreciate the trip's philosophy--stay out of the big cities and get to know the "real" India by staying closer to locals in non-urban areas. She is so gratified that this group of wonderful women on the India trip really get it. They started at a hotel on a wide river, where fishermen famously cast giant cantiilevered nets off of fixed wooden platforms to catch their fish. They went out for a sunset dinner on one of the fishing platforms and ate fresh fish while the fisherman worked his nets. Everyone agreed it was extraordinary. Now, they're up in the mountains, where views of velvety green tea fields extend for miles.

Sometimes travel feels like a necessity, not a luxury. Especially these days. It’s so good to get away from the news, and put away our phones (except for photos).
Jeannie R. didn't think she could be happier with how the trip started until Suzanne Robinson, a frequent traveler from Kansas City, showed her a text exchange with her daughter. We try so hard to go beyond the typical tourist expectations for a destination and into a deeper connection with the local culture, and we're simply over the moon to know it's appreciated.

Maybe we should have a theme song…”We Take You Places You Wouldn’t Have Found”
Jeannie Edmunds is NOT having an adventure this week but she’s getting ready for one. She opened up the WhatsApp chat with travelers going to Morocco with her and HOLY COW these women are COOL….and they love to be active.
Of the two Jeannies, Ralston is the GO GO GO Girl, (have you ever tried to keep up with those long legs even when she’s strolling?) and Edmunds is the “come sit by me” type who likes to get to know you. Ask anyone who’s traveled with her. She treats a trip like a fabulous dinner party, where the guests and conversation and connections are as important as the experience. In fact both Jeannies do this, and we’ve encouraged all of our trip leaders to do it, too.
Since she’s leaving for Marrakesh next Friday she’s in the gym again so she can keep up with these active women in the souks, the Atlas Mountains, and the Sahara.

By the way, her Morocco trip is sold out but we had a cancellation on the second departure, February 21-March 5. No visas or shots required. Kayak is showing $320 roundtrip fare from New York for those dates on Jet Blue and Wizz Air, if you dare!

This Week’s Reads
If you’re used to traveling alone and wouldn’t dream of going with a group of strangers, this is for you. It’s irreverent, and if the language offends you, well, sorry about that. We love her writing!
And from the archives, another way to travel.

Jeannie Ralston says, “I'm always getting ideas for great products from travelers, This one came from traveler Kim Barnfield, from San Antonio, who’s traveling with me in India. She packed a shirt that combines sun protection with insect repellent. So smart. Because if you're in a warm, sunny place, chances are you have bugs to worry about too. Got to love the two-in-one efficiency."
