Barbie, Jeannie and Ellesor cruising on the lake.

It was an offer Jeannie Ralston couldn’t refuse. A college friend, Barbie McKie, invited her to spend 2 days at a nearby mountain lake along with another pal Ellesor Holder (a NextTribe trip leader, as many of you know). Barbie had everything set up. The cabin, the meals, the activities. “All you need to do is show up,” she said.

“It’s so rare that I go anywhere without making the plans that I said yes immediately. I didn’t even care what we were going to do and what we were going to eat,” Jeannie says. The respite was exquisite—and the crystal clear fall weather was the icing on the cake. They chilled out on a boat, hiked in the woods, danced around a fire pit. Jeannie reports that she feels recharged for the work that awaits her over the next 10 days—getting everything in order before she leaves with a NextTribe group to hike in the Himalayas.

Jeannie Edmunds is finishing thank you notes to her Greece travelers today. And she’s on a quest to find a US distributor for these rolled chocolate wafers with pistachio cream filling she found in a market in Athens.

“I can see why people go nuts over the combination of chocolate and pistachio cream. The best treat I’ve ever found, anywhere in the world!” she exclaims. If you know Jeannie, you know she loves a lot of things, places, people. But she’s putting her money where her mouth is and buying these by the case…if her local European market will special order them. Otherwise, it’s back to Greece with an empty suitcase!

If it’s sweater weather where you are, curl up in a cardigan and enjoy the reads!

Argentina stretches from subtropical wetlands to Patagonian glaciers. The Chile-Argentina border is among the most geographically dramatic and diverse and includes the highest mountains and volcanoes in both Western and Southern Hemispheres.. but our journey focuses on the country’s heart: cosmopolitan Buenos Aires, the legendary vineyards of Mendoza, and the high-altitude valleys of the northwest where the Andes create their own microclimate. Think dramatic landscapes, intimate cultural encounters, and wines you’ve never tasted anywhere else. In Argentina, every day brings a new discovery.
