Age Boldly: Can Stress Make Me Fat?

Transitions are hard. One day you’re exuberantly throwing yourself off the roof of a boat into water so clear you can almost count the grains of sand on the bottom. The next day, you’re crammed into a small seat in a metal tube on a tarmac in Istanbul, waiting three hours for the fog to clear in London. This is how the early part of this week went for Jeannie Ralston, but instead of getting frustrated with the delay—well, to be honest…after realizing getting frustrated wouldn’t help—Jeannie made friends with the British Airways pilots, who let her take a seat at the controls.

“They kept saying pull any lever or knob you want,” Jeannie reports. “But I said, `Not a chance. I don’t want something I fiddle with to bring down the plane later.’”

Good news: She made it home safely and is now up to her crow’s feet in laundry.

Jeannie Edmunds is with a lively group in Greece. Above, she is with Chef Fotini in her home on the island of Hydra after a cooking class. “Now we feast! It’s been a beautiful week in Athens and Hydra,” she says. “We head to Spetses tomorrow for the last day of our big fat Greek adventure!”
