Hi there!
In her recent monthly founder’s newsletter, Jeannie Ralston made a big deal about how her December birthday was constantly played down while growing up.
Well, a bunch of NextTribe travelers have made up for that perceived slight. Thanks to Vanessa Sinclair, a faithful traveler and trip leader, Marcellina Kampa, our local community manager and Safa Abd Elhamid, our social media guru, she was treated to a video that showers her with the love and attention that she—a self-described birthday ho—always craves this time of year.
Keep an eye out for a cameo by Mohamed, our truly BELOVED guide in Morocco (who will be guiding us on two trips in 2026).
“I got really choked up watching this,” Ralston says. “What a surprise! What a blessing! A birthday wish come true.” Her other birthday wish—one made when she first opened her eyes yesterday morning as a 65-year-old—is more long term: “I never want to act my age.” Watch out!!

Jeannie Edmunds is back in the gym, trying not to act HER age either, staying in shape to lead some of our trips in 2026! (In case you’re interested in Morocco, her January trip is sold out but we still have a couple of open spots on the February trip. Same itinerary.)
It’s not that her trips are so physically demanding. Of the two Jeannies, this one prefers the more laid-back, mellow trips! “I love my chill time, and have to talk myself into going to the gym nearly every time,” she says. “But I feel better after every workout so I keep going back.”

Jeannie Ralston says, “I was putting together the packing list for our India trip in January and came across this jaunty cardigan. I had to order it. I love that it’s a twist on a classic. And I absolutely adore stripes.” If you’re looking for ideas for holiday giving, see our extensive guide to travel-related gifts.
