Age Boldly: A Guide to NOT Dying While Driving in Scotland

Or any other "lefty" countries.

Greetings!

Jeannie Ralston is busy this week happily entertaining Mike’s daughter Kelly and her boyfriend Jonathon. Yesterday they went foraging in the woods for mushrooms and other lovely edibles. It’s the same program that Jeannie takes guests on when they come to Asheville for the NextTribe trip. (Stay tuned, we’ll be posting a new Asheville trip for Spring 2026). They found a heap of chanterelle mushrooms that were then whipped into a beautiful dish for our dinner at one of Asheville’s best restaurants. Can’t get any closer to your food than this!

Family of foragers.

Chanterelle mushrooms in the wild…and on our table.

Jeannie Edmunds has a metal sculpture on her front porch in Austin. It has traveled with her from the time she lived in Topanga, California in the early 2000s through a couple of moves and years in storage. It’s meant to be a surfboard holder, gifted to her by a neighbor who was surfer/artist.

This week it stands on her tiny front porch in Austin, ready to hold an inflatable surfboard she ordered online (that will probably melt in the Texas heat!) She likes to decorate it for the season, so she’s open to ideas for future accessories for “the one old, rusty man I will never get rid of.”

On Valentine’s Day he held a big, plush red heart, a welcome home to her husband Dave.

And today NextTribe Travel Manager Marcy Mitchell is driving a van through the mountains, heading south to Buena Vista to lead our Colorado adventure trip!

This is Marcy’s second year leading this exciting trip, which she custom designed. She just loves Colorado and the western US.

Hope your reading corner has some a/c, and that you enjoy the articles.

FEATURED FIND

Jeannie Ralston says, “Every time I create a new packing list for a trip, I find some great pieces that I have to order. I found this jacket while working on the Seattle packing list and love it because it’s stylish but very practical. Did you see the size of those pockets? I have a vintage French clerk jacket in blue that I bought at a Paris flea market. This is the closest you can get to it—that I’ve seen. Wear it during the day or over a black dress with a scarf for dinner.”
